DxOMark Redo: 5D Mark III Sensor Better than the D800?

When comparing the huge volume of data accumulated over measuring 147 lenses, one very surprising result was revealed. The average sharpness scores of the Canon EOS 5D Mark III matched the Nikon D800 and if the results were based solely on the mean average, the Canon actually out-performed the Nikon.

When using specific lenses (such as the new Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM A) the Nikon can out resolve the Canon. However, taken as a whole, the statistics reveal the EOS 5D MK III is capable of similar sharpness and of achieving a close DxOMark camera/lens score to the Nikon D800. Moreover, that’s despite the latter camera’s 60% extra pixel count.


Either way, the Nikon D800 sensor simply isn’t as adept at resolving detail, pixel-by-pixel, as the Canon EOS 5D Mark III. There’s another surprise as well.

با توجه به اشتباه DxO در خصوص امتیازات 5DMKIII و D800 ، به نظر می رسد می شود انتظار داشت در خصوص امتیازات 6D و D600 هم تصحیح مشابهی صورت گیرد.

A list of improvements in firmware version 1.2.1 is listed below.

Uncompressed HDMI output is now enabled.
Enables the center AF point to autofocus when the camera is used with Canon EF lens/extender combinations whose combined maximum aperture is f/8.
Improves the speed of the camera’s acquisition of focus when using a Canon Speedlite’s AF-assist beam.
Fixes a phenomenon in which the LCD monitor may freeze and display Err 70 or Err 80 when a still photo is taken during Live View or in movie shooting mode.
Fixes a phenomenon that may occur when the continuous shooting priority setting is enabled for multiple exposures, such that, after the sixth image is taken, there is a slight pause before the remainder of the sequence is completed.
Fixes a phenomenon in which the viewfinder display shows incorrect information during AEB shooting.
Communication with the WFT-E7 Wireless File Transmitter has been improved.
When images have been successfully transferred with the WFT-E7 Wireless File Transmitter through the FTP protocol, an “O” will be displayed. When images have not been successfully transferred with the WFT-E7 Wireless File Transmitter through the FTP protocol, an “X” will be displayed.
Fixes a phenomenon in which the camera may not function properly when an Eye-Fi card is used.
Fixes a phenomenon in which the focal length value listed in the Exif information is not displayed correctly for images shot with the EF 24-70mm F4L IS USM lens.
Fixes a phenomenon in which the lens firmware cannot be updated properly.
Corrects errors in the Arabic language menu.
Fixes a phenomenon in which the camera changes the AF microadjustment value to -8.
Fixes a phenomenon in which the on-screen guidance cannot be fully displayed when setting the maximum limit value for the “Setting the ISO Speed Range for Auto ISO” option.

Magic Lantern برای اولین بار در یکی از firmware های خود قابلیت فیلمبرداری RAW را به یک دوربین افزود.
در firmware جدیدی که برای دوربین 5D III ارئه شده است به این دوربین قابلیت فیلمبرداری اچ دی و فول اچ دی با فریم ریت 24 فریم بر ثانیه به فرمت RAW افزوده شده است.
برای استفاده از این قابلیت کارتهای CF 1000x توصیه شده است.

The Magic Lantern guys never cease to amaze with what they can pull out of Canon HDSLRs. In the latest Magic Lantern firmware that’s in development, the Canon 5D Mark III now manages to capture raw video at 24p. This comes after it was previously teased running at lower frame rates.
The resolution isn’t quite up to full 1920 x 1080; however, 720p is no problem. Additionally, they have been able to record up to 1928×850 with continuous recording. Bumping the resolution up to 1928×902 only allows for 700 frames of capture (or 29 seconds) before recording stops.
For an example of what raw video offers over Canon’s internal ALL-I recording, check out the below sample videos.
This first video is the new Magic Lantern raw video captured at 1920×820 on the 5D Mark III (that’s 2.35:1 aspect ratio). Each raw frame captured by the camera is roughly 3MB in size, which is why they recommend using 1000x CF cards
The difference between the internal footage and the RAW footage shows just what the 5D Mark III hardware is capable of doing . . . with the right firmware. The raw video allows so much more detail to be retained in both highlights and shadows.
While this latest firmware isn’t quite ready for everybody, it’s amazing to see what Magic Lantern is doing with Canon HDSLRs. And, it probably won’t be long before this is readily available to everyone.
We’ll be watching and waiting closely to see if Magic Lantern can push the resolution beyond the current stable resolutions for continuous recording.
Of course, there’s no additional news on the 5D Mark II raw video developments – yet.

مساله کیفیت فیلمبرداری نیست وگرنه این دوربین برای اینکار بهترین است. مساله مشکلات فیلبرداری با این دوربینها است. این تاپیک را مطالعه کنید بهتر متوجه میشوید. میتوانید سوالتان را آنجا مطرح کنید.
